Students enter the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from a variety of backgrounds and institutions. We accept both freshman and transfer students as well as many students changing their major to Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences (WFSC) from within Texas A&M University. Each type of applicant has specific steps that can be taken to best prepare themselves to become a WFSC major.
Applicants must refer to the Office of Admissions and Records guidelines for official requirements to enter Texas A&M and to obtain an application. The Admissions Office offers guidance to prospective students through the Prospective Student Center (PSC). Contact the PSC at 979-458-0427 or admissions@tamu.edu. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences also offers assistance and guidance to prospective students at any stage of the applications process. Freshman applicants must focus on being admitted to Texas A&M University. A&M admits students to the university first, then a student is offered their first choice major if room is available. At this time, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences is able to accept all freshmen who are admitted to Texas A&M and list WFSC as their choice of major on their application. Freshman admission is determined based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores, class rank, coursework taken in high school, and all of a student’s activities outside the classroom. It is important for students planning on attending a Texas A&M to prepare themselves early in their high school career.
Transfer applicants are reviewed based on the courses they have completed at another college or university and their grade point average on that coursework. Texas A&M has prepared a consolidated list of courses that are recommended to transfer students in order to have a strong foundation for entering A&M. Transfer students need to refer to this chart and also make sure that all courses transfer to Texas A&M by referring to the Texas Common Course Numbering System.
Students may apply to transfer after completing 24 hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Although 2.5 is the minimum to apply for transfer admission at A&M, competitive applicants in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences will want to maintain higher grades. Below are listed sample schedules for up to 4 semesters based on the recommended courses for transferring to Texas A&M and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. These schedules are not a required list of courses but a recommendation. Course numbers listed are Texas Common Course Numbers. Students who have already been taking courses at another institution and would now like to prepare to transfer may contact our office for assistance in choosing appropriate classes. Courses not listed below may not directly fit the WFSC degree plan.

Students who are currently attending Texas A&M and would like to request a change of major to WFSC need to contact the academic advising office at 979-845-5704. Changes of major are granted on a case by case basis.
