An introduction to environmental sciences, with emphasis on the importance of microbes and the impact of the world's population on global resources.

Text: Cunningham et al., Environmental Science: A Global Concern, 9th or 10th Edition

Course Description:
Environmental science is critical to sustainable human economy, health and quality of life. The field is multidisciplinary, seeking to unite ecological principles with other natural sciences, such as geology and chemistry, as well as social sciences such as politics and anthropology. Thus, this course covers a lot of material. It requires that students learn subject matter well beyond their usual bounds of learning and experience. Yet the end result should be a broad and balanced perspective that will help students understand the depth of environmental issues. Ideally, this perspective allows one to see a path to environmental remedies and sustainable practices that can improve interactions between humans and the environment.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal antidiscrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities. If you believe you have a disability requiring an accommodation, please contact the Department of Student Life, Services for Students with Disabilities in Room 126 of the Koldus Building, or call 845-1643.
